Pine Coulee Reservoir (PCR) is located in southern Alberta about an hour south of Calgary. This spot’s dominant wind directions (like most in southern AB) are W, WSW, and SW although north and easterly winds can be enjoyed here too.
PCR offers clean water and a very scenic view of the mountainous landscape west of it. The southern part of the lake offers shallow areas to kite from but it has a somewhat rocky bottom on most of it so it can be hard on the feet without water-footwear.
PCR is about 10 minutes west of Stavely, AB. To arrive at the south side of PCR, where there are some good kite launching areas, go just south of Stavely on HWY 2 and turn west on TWP 140 towards PCR.
